THE STORY

In the Spanish court of the 17th century, it is the birthday of the Infanta - arrogant, spoiled and heartless. As a special entertainment for her twelfth birthday, a “Fantastic” has been brought to the palace - an ugly, dwarfed boy - found innocently dancing and singing in nearby woods. The two children meet, one beautiful, heartless and unhappy; the other naive, poor, absurdly deformed but happy. Of the two, the princess is the more severely crippled because she lacks human compassion. The 'Fantastic' changes her life.

The Crucible- Actors' Repertory Theatre, Simi Valley

Actors' Repertory Theatre of Simi's Literature in Action program will be opening their production of Arthur Miller's, The Crucible, for three performances only, June 4, 5, and 6 at 7:00 pm, at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Avenue, Simi Valley CA 93065. 

The Crucible is directed by John Dantona and features young adults between the ages of 14 - 19 years, performing this American classic that draws a parallel between the Salem witch trials and Sen. Joe McCarthy's HUAC activities in the mid twentieth century. 

The Crucible production is part of an enrichment program sponsored by Target Stores of Simi Valley, and Wells Fargo, and under the non profit umbrella of the Simi Valley Cultural Association.

Group rates do not apply, this production is suitable for all ages, although the subject matter may not appeal to young children.

Disney's Aladdin, Jr. Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail!  All of your favorite characters are here in Disney's ALADDIN, Jr., a stage adaptation of the Disney hit film. Filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides, audiences' spirits will soar with excitement. The Miracle Worker- Actor's Repertory Theatre, Simi Valley

Actors' Repertory Theatre will be opening its production of The Miracle Worker, 
a play by William Gibson, directed by David Ralphe, on June 1, 2013 at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Avenue, Simi Valley 93065. 

The Miracle Worker was initially written for television before being presented on stage in 1959. From that point on, it's been one of the most popular pieces of American theater. It tells the true story of a young teacher named Annie Sullivan and her heroic efforts to give the blind, deaf and mute Helen Keller the gift of language. As a tribute to Hellen Keller and the physically challenged, all musical underscoring for this production has been selected from blind composers and performed live by acclaimed violinist, Ray Dean Mize.

The action begins at the beautiful court of Theseus, Duke of Athens, and later moves to the mystical forest inhabited by Oberon and Titania, king and queen of the fairies. And don't forget Puck! About to marry the Amazon Queen Hippolyta whom he has just conquered. Theseus radiates a kingly, authoritative presence and a courtly power. Oberon: MALE, All Ethnicities, [30's-50's] King of the Fairies, and husband to Titania. His relationship with Titania is a fiery and explosive bid for dominance, and it is through his need for revenge that most of the conflict in the play arises. He is passionate and quick to anger. Egeus: MALE, All Ethnicities, [40's-50's] Hermia's father and a respected nobleman in Theseus's court. He wishes to control his daughter's choice of husband and is willing to ask Theseus to condemn her to death if she disobeys him. He is stern and inflexible. Lysander: MALE, All Ethnicities, [20's] A young nobleman of Athens. He loves Helena and she returns his affections, but he must persuade her to run away with him when her father, Egeus, rejects the match. He is suave, romantic, and can be quite reckless and impulsive. Demetrius: MALE, All Ethnicities, [20's] A young nobleman of Athens. After courting Helena and making her fall in love with him, he changes his mind and sets his sights on the beautiful Hermia, whose father, Egeus, approves of his suit. Demetrius is manipulative, changing his tactics when it suits him. He is deferential, cruel and passionate over the course of the play. Hippolyta: FEMALE, All Ethnicities, [20’s to 40’s] The conquered Queen of the Amazons. Despite having been betrothed to Theseus because he conquered her in battle, she has a genuine affection for him, and is excited for their impending nuptials. She is compassionate and ladylike. Nick Bottom (the weaver): MALE, All Ethnicities, [20’s to 50’s] One of the "mechanicals" that perform in the play within the play. Bottom is brash, flashy and pompous, and has the presence of a game show host. He's extremely arrogant and often orders his fellow troupe players around. Peter Quince (the carpenter): MALE, All Ethnicities, [20’s to 50’s] Another "mechanical" that performs in the play within the play. A neurotic Woody Allen type who often gets pushed around by Bottom. Robin Starveling (the tailor): MALE, All Ethnicities, [20’s to 50’s] The "mechanical" who plays Moonshine in the play within a play. He's the dramatic "actor" type. Tom Snout (the tinker): MALE, All Ethnicities, [20’s to 50’s] The "mechanical" who plays Wall in the play within a play. He's the big dumb ox of the group, and one that the others are a little afraid of. Fairies (assorted): MALE or FEMALE, All Ethnicities, [18 to 30] The fairies create the magic of the forest, and are generally part of the group that follow Titania around. Certain fairies will have monologues.
