December 2012
Dear Friend of Elite Theatre,
We have exciting news…after over 19 years in our current location at the Petit Playhouse, the Elite Theatre Company is MOVING! For our 2013 season we are relocating to the former site of the Maritime Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf in the Channel Islands Harbor. We are thrilled with the prospect! There are more dining choices for you before or after the show, easier parking, no steep stairs, and spectacular views. Speaking of spectacular views, we don’t just mean the view of the sun setting over the harbor, (hold on to your hat, brace yourself, maybe you should sit down for this) you will be able to enjoy our shows with a spectacular and unobstructed view of the stage because there are NO PILLARS!!!!
However, the necessity of moving descended upon us abruptly with the sale of the Petit House. As such, we were caught unprepared and in danger of having to go dark. But the County of Ventura kindly made the former Maritime Museum site available to us as we seek a permanent home. But there are costs involved in moving the theater in about a month’s time. The current show will close on December 23, the last of an era in the Petit Playhouse. We start our 2013 season — our 20th— in the new location with our 4th Annual One-Act Play Festival on January 11. Please, consider helping us move by becoming a season sponsor or a new season ticket holder. The sponsorship/ticket form is below. As a sponsor, not only will you receive season tickets, but your donation will help us with all the unexpected and unbudgeted costs of moving. If you respond by December 23, you will also receive a ticket to the One-Act Play Festival.
We have planned a tremendous season for 2013 entitled CATHARSIS, and you don’t want to miss it! Opening on February 22 is The Last Five Years, a contemporary song-cycle musical that ingeniously chronicles the five-year life of a marriage, from meeting to break-up…or break-up to meeting, depending on how you look at it. This is an intensely personal look at the relationship between a writer and an actress told from both points of view. The second show will be God of Carnage. A playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, and the rum flows, the gloves come off…well, do I need to say more? The third show will be the Elite’s version of William Shakespeare’sA Midsummer’s Night Dream. The fourth show of 2013—a World Premiere—is all wet and good clean fun. Is it possible to sell soap and find love? In Selling Lovethe definitive answer (after some mishaps and misunderstandings, of course) is YES! We will close our 2013 season with The Diviners, a period piece set in 1930’s Indiana where we find a young man haunted by his mother’s death by drowning and a preacher trying to escape his calling by working for the boy’s father as a mechanic. Will the need of the boy to find peace about his mother’s death help the preacher see his true destiny? You will have to come to find out!
Please review the sponsor opportunities below and consider supporting us in this move. As always, we appreciate your patronage and look forward to seeing you at the harbor!
Sincerely, Pat Lawler President
