Audition- Nottingham Festival, Simi Valley

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Nottingham Festival Auditions Announced

The Nottingham Festival, sponsored by the Simi Valley Cultural Association and Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi, announces auditions for their upcoming weekend renaissance faire, coming to the Ventura County area in Simi Valley on Nov. 16 and 17.

Organizers are seeking talented, dynamic and outgoing stage acts, acoustic music and dance groups to perform on one of our four stages. They are also seeking strolling or stationary musicians and entertainers that will interact with the audience, in addition to helping create an “ambiance” and live soundtrack throughout the grounds of the festival.

If this sounds like you--if this sounds like fun--and if this is something any performers interested are ready to jump in and commit to, please join the organizers for open auditions on Sat. July 27 at 11 a.m. at the Simi Valley Town Center, 1555 Town Center Way, Simi Valley, CA 93065. For more information and to schedule an appointment please contact the Entertainment Director, Carlos PeƱaranda, at carlos@nottinghamfestival.com.

The Nottingham Festival is a traditional renaissance faire and market place focusing on education and entertainment of a specific historical time period, so it is asked that all performers and acts be willing to gear their entertainment toward the 16th century Elizabethan era of England. Organizers are aware that certain theatrical “liberties” will need to be taken with regard to period vs. non-period content, but keep modernisms and anachronisms to a clever minimum. This is an outdoor event so participants must be willing to work in the open air during the month of November. In an effort to remain “acoustic,” electricity will be provided in limited capacity, so bear in mind that performers will be unplugged and un-mic’d. Opportunity for pay is possible but not guaranteed.

Oberon: MALE, All Ethnicities, [30's-50's] King of the Fairies, and husband to Titania. His relationship with Titania is a fiery and explosive bid for dominance, and it is through his need for revenge that most of the conflict in the play arises. He is passionate and quick to anger.

Hippolyta: FEMALE, All Ethnicities, [20’s to 40’s] The conquered Queen of the Amazons. Despite having been betrothed to Theseus because he conquered her in battle, she has a genuine affection for him, and is excited for their impending nuptials. She is compassionate and ladylike.

Kathleen Bosworth
Scott Blanchard

Set in a modern upscale section of Brooklyn, the premise of Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage starts off simply enough: one kid knocks another kid’s two front teeth out with a stick in a schoolyard altercation. Both parents agree to meet amicably to discuss the incident in an attempt to clear the air. But as increasing quantities of rum are consumed, the strained veneer of civility is dropped as both couples reveal their fangs and foibles, clawing at each other in a clash of egos and a battle of the sexes.

The English translation of the play was first presented in a UK Premiere at the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End in March, 2008. After some minor changes to the English script to accommodate American audiences, a Broadway production opened in March, 2009 with Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Hardin. All four actors were nominated for Tony Awards for their performances with Harden actually winning the award for Best Leading Actress in a Play.

In 2001, Roman Polansky directed the film adaption of God of Carnage, whose title was shortened to Carnage and starred Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Christopher Waltz and Kate Winslet The film was shot in Paris, due to Polanski's outstanding criminal conviction in the United States, but the play's Brooklyn setting is retained in the film.

A Chicago native, Rachel Barton Pine began violin studies at age three and made her professional debut four years later at age seven with the Chicago String Ensemble. Her earliest appearances with the Chicago Symphony (at ages ten and fifteen) were broadcast on television.  She has since gone on to perform with major orchestras and in recital around the world.  She has recorded extensively on the Cedille, Warner Classics and Dorian labels. Ms. Pine’s diverse musical interests range from the Baroque with her Trio Settecento to heavy metal with her doom/trash metal band Earthen Grave.
When Tchaikovsky finished his Violin Concerto, he sent it to Leopold Auer, a friend who headed the violin department at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and who was also Court Violinist to the Czar, hoping to have him premiere the work. Auer declared the work “unplayable”. It was not until three years later that it received its premiere.  The concerto is now one of the most popular in the repertory.
Beethoven’s revolutionary “Eroica” Symphony is a work that changed the course of musical history. There was much sentiment at the turn of the 19th century that the expressive and technical possibilities of the symphonic genre had been exhausted. It was Beethoven’s majestic Third Symphony that threw wide the gates on the unprecedented artistic vistas that were to be explored for the rest of the century. In a single giant leap, he invested the genre with the breadth and richness of emotional and architectonic expression that established the grand sweep that the word “symphonic” now connotes.
